One day, I met a partner who showed me a handbike. I tried it and loved the sensation. Shortly after, I bought a second-hand handbike and coincidentally it was a QUICKIE. It all started there.
Before my injury I loved cycling, a sport that requires discipline, effort, work and perseverance. They are values with which I identify with.
Sport means a lot to me. A second chance in life. After my accident, it has brought meaning back to my life, it has helped me discover abilities that I did not know I had and to respond to what had happened to me, and led me to live experiences that I never imagined.
My youth was normal, with age-related concerns, nothing unusual. I left my studies earlier than planned and started to work at an early age (16 years), and I got married at 21 and had a beautiful daughter named Nerea. She's the best thing that could happen to me. A few months after her birth, I had to face the worst shock of my life.
Due to an accident at work, I suffered a spinal cord injury at a quadriplegic level, affecting all four limbs, after which I would spend a year in a hospital. I had to learn again how to deal with my new day to day.
With my character, always restless, I was trying to find myself. I started studying again until I got to university to study Medicine and Criminology, but I did not see my expectations fulfilled until 14 years cycling came across my life.
