Sunrise Medical introduces the STERLING S50 Carbon - extending lightweight carbon fibre innovation into mobility scooters

Tuesday, May 5, 2026

Sunrise Medical announces the launch of the STERLING S50 Carbon, a lightweight folding mobility scooter that combines premium carbon fibre technology with effortless portability, durability, and everyday practicality.

Following the global success of the QUICKIE Q50 R Carbon — one of the industry’s first lightweight full carbon fibre power wheelchairs — Sunrise Medical continues to push the boundaries of lightweight mobility innovation. With the S50 Carbon, Sunrise Medical brings its proven carbon fibre expertise into the scooter category, creating a stylish, ultra-lightweight solution without compromising performance or stability.

Designed for riders who prefer the simplicity and familiarity of handlebar control, the S50 Carbon delivers intuitive driving in a compact folding format.

At the core of the S50 Carbon is a one-piece folding design requiring just two simple folds, with no dismantling needed. Weighing only 13 kg (28.4 lbs.) without the battery, it is exceptionally easy to lift, transport, and store — whether loading into a car, travelling, or moving through daily life. Integrated grab points and a balanced frame make one-person handling easy.

Lightweight by design. Strong by nature.

Its full carbon fibre frame combines impressive strength with low weight, supporting users up to 120 kg (265 lbs.) while delivering a stable, durable ride across everyday environments.

Once folded, the scooter can be wheeled using integrated transport wheels, reducing the need for lifting over longer distances. The removable 12 Ah lithium-ion battery can also be detached separately for charging or lighter carrying weight.

Built around real-world mobility.

Compact dimensions and a tight 1475 mm (58”) turning radius make the S50 Carbon easy to manoeuvre through shops, doorways, and busy pedestrian spaces. Turn Assist automatically adjusts speed during cornering for smoother handling, while the spacious foot platform and adjustable tiller help create a more natural and comfortable driving position.

Integrated front and rear LED lights improve visibility, with the rear light responding dynamically to changes in speed.

The S50 Carbon is designed to handle typical daily environments, including gradients up to 6° and kerbs up to 40 mm, while offering a maximum range of up to 19.2 km (11.9 miles), depending on conditions and usage.
For travel convenience, the lithium-ion battery is UN38.3 tested and compliant with applicable IATA Dangerous Goods Regulations for air transport*. An optional travel case with moulded foam protection and durable outer shell is also available.

With the STERLING S50 Carbon, Sunrise Medical continues to redefine lightweight mobility — combining advanced materials, smart design, and practical portability in a next-generation folding scooter.

*Individual airlines may have different requirements for transporting products with lithium-ion batteries. Before arranging air travel with the mobility scooter, please check with your airline or carrier for their specific requirements. Please also refer to the instructions for use for further details.
