Following its Red Dot Design Award in June, the ergoflix® vario has now won the European Product Design Award 2026 in two categories, marking its second major design award this year. The foldable electric wheelchair was honoured in Automotive & Transport/Other Personal Vehicles and Industrial/Healthcare: Medical Products.
The European Product Design Award (EPDA) recognises outstanding product design from around the world, with entries assessed by an international jury of design professionals. The awards ceremony will take place on 18 October 2026 in Venice.
“After the Red Dot, this second award is a proud moment for all of us at ergoflix. We created the vario as a premium lifestyle product, giving people more freedom to enjoy life and travel in a wheelchair they feel good about using. That freedom goes hand in hand with the care a medical device demands — a personal fit, supportive seating and a comfortable ride. Our team has put so much thought into every detail. Seeing that work recognised again means a great deal to us,” says Thomas Dieste, Managing Director of ergoflix.
Premium lifestyle design with a personal fit
Developed by ergoflix’s in-house product team, the ergoflix® vario makes key adjustment points clearly visible and easy to access, helping the wheelchair be tailored to each user. Adjustable seat height and depth, armrests, backrest height and angle, and footrest settings to accommodate different leg lengths support an individual fit and a comfortable, well-supported seating position.
Designed for an active, independent lifestyle, the ergoflix® vario has a modern look that users can enjoy as part of their personal style. Colour accents around the seating area emphasise seating and comfort. This premium lifestyle design goes hand in hand with careful attention to ergonomics and individual fit. Its recognition in both transport and healthcare categories reflects that balance.
The foldable design makes the wheelchair easier to take on everyday journeys and holidays, whether travelling by car, bus, train or plane, subject to airline requirements. Its 10-inch front wheels help users negotiate uneven surfaces, while rear axle suspension helps absorb bumps for a more comfortable ride. The particularly quiet sine-wave drive makes journeys more pleasant, and a range of up to 25 kilometres gives users greater freedom to enjoy longer outings between charges.
